The Labor Department was established by the British India Act. Initially, as a state institution, the responsibility was to ensure the welfare of workers and their families, including establishing good relations between the laborers and employers. As a result, 32 labor welfare centers have been established throughout Bangladesh. In 1965, Labour welfare center, Rupsa Office Building was constructed on about 01 (one) acre of land at 150, Khanjahan Ali Road, Rupsa, Khulna. Currently, office work is being conducted in the 4-storey building.
Since its inception, this department has distributed free health care and medicine to workers and their family members working in Rupsa and adjacent industrial establishments, raising awareness about family planning, distributing free birth control materials, and currently, Bangladesh Labour welfare Foundation fund is used for the treatment or death of workers and their family members and their talents. Necessary measures are taken to provide financial assistance for higher education of children.
Labour welfare center, Rupsa, Khulna consists of a total of 12 officers-employees; Where the Medical Officer is the Chief Executive Officer.
